#GOALKEEPERS17 IS COMING…

On 19th and 20th September, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation are hosting Goalkeepers, an event in New York City filled with inspiring stories and driven by data, dedicated to accelerating world progress.
Goalkeepers’ will help bring together a generation of determined thinkers, doers and givers to help hit the ambitious Global Goals target, in whatever way they can.
You can see more of the speakers here.

WHAT’S HAPPENING?

The event launches with a celebration of stories of success, at the second annual Global Goals Awards, in partnership with UNICEF. This is the chance to recognize some truly extraordinary individuals, in front of an audience of people who can help make this change happen more quickly.
And on Wednesday 20th, the daytime event (from 9am EST) will use creativity and storytelling to celebrate the biggest achievements in development, highlighting champions and announcing a set of ‘accelerators’.
Melinda Gates will curate a one-hour session on women and girls, spot-lighting the critical role of women’s movements in driving change.
Stephen Fry and Dr Astro Teller will host a session on Purpose Driven Technology focusing on key tech and innovation developments that are lifting people out of extreme poverty around the world.
And finally, Bill Gates will present a one-hour session examining the challenge of convincing people that things are getting better, focusing on innovations and the global health heroes that give him cause for optimism.

HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?

In advance of the event we’ll be sharing The Goalkeepers Report, an annual progress check revealing new data and exploring the stories behind it. Find out where we’re making progress and what we can do better.
The best stories, speeches and solutions from the event will be shared around the world to ensure that all of you can play your part, including the chance to watch a live stream of the two events.

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?

Extreme poverty has been cut in half, millions of children’s lives have been saved and people are living longer and healthier lives than ever before.
